Some critics have even gone so far as to label it the worst song ever recorded, Christmas or otherwise. A commentator for Golf Digest wrote, “‘Wonderful Christmastime’ is the most terrible song ever written by anyone, or anything, ever, including robots and gorillas and Puff Daddy and Courtney Love. No one likes ‘Wonderful Christmastime.’ No one. Paul McCartney hates it. All of Paul McCartney’s wives hate it. Santa thinks it’s a joke.”

  1. Because of my job I hear lots and lots of holiday songs. All day long. The original version of this song is simply…awful – certainly awful enough to merit Sir Paul having his knighthood revoked, IMHO. But it’s not more awful than “Marshmallow World,” “Do they Know it’s Christmas,” “Santa Baby,” or that horrible spoken word thing by the Waitresses that for a long time I thought was a Bananrama song.
