If you want to do more than simply satisfy the munchies with a quick snack, you might consider a visit to Sublimotion. A word to the wise, though: it’s going to cost you a wee bit more than a trip through the drive-through.
Billed as “the world’s most expensive restaurant,” Sublimotion is located on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, 150 km (93 miles) off the coast of Valencia, Spain. Its head chef, Paco Rancero, seeks to “elicit an emotional experience” by stimulating all of the senses. It is unclear whether one of the senses to be stimulated is the sticker shock at the $2,000 per person bill.
The three-hour experience “offers diners the chance to enter into an imagination laboratory where the latest advancements in gastronomy, cinema and technology fuse together to create a unique experience that never ceases to surprise the diner,” according to the citation on Sublimotion’s Best Innovation award from Worldwide Hospitality Award.
Diners sample 20 entrees while experiencing a change in ambiance, such as transforming scenery, changes in temperature and humidity, and appropriate musical accompaniment.
Among the culinary specialties is nitrogen-frozen olive oil added to bread and tomato, and separate olive oil parcels delivered on a suspended clothesline. Dessert comes on a levitating, spinning plate.
Sublimotion is in the Hard Rock Hotel in Playa de Bossa, and it seats only 12 patrons at a time. Needless to say, reservations are required.
