In 1887 James Roosevelt was in Washington, DC and arranged to take his 5 year-old son, Franklin, to the White House to meet President Grover Cleveland.

Cleveland must have been having a difficult day, because upon meeting young Franklin, he said, “I am making a strange wish for you.  It is that you may never be President of the United States.”

Forty-five years later, his wish fell flat when Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to the first of four terms as President.
