George Washington’s personal copy of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and acts of the first Congress of the United States, along with his autograph on the first page, sold at auction in 2012 for $9,826,500. The sale set a world record for an American book or historical document.
It was purchased by Ann Bookout, who served as a member of the board of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. She placed the book in the President’s library.
